Whelp, Looks Like the Right is Consolidating its Grip on the Media Ecosystem

With Paramount's acquisition of Warner Brothers/Discovery, it now gains control of CNN. This means that Trump supporter Larry Ellison now has effective control of CBS News, CNN, and TikTok. Combine that with the Murdoch's control of Fox News, Musk in control of Twitter/X, Bezos acquiescing with the Washington Post, there's not much left of the corporate media that is not in the pocket of Trump and the GOP. Lovely.

Looking back, you saw that this was likely coming. Trump himself said that the Netflix deal was going to have to go through him. And once Paramount and Ellison got involved, the writing was on the wall. Trump could single-handedly make it so the Netflix deal couldn't go through without his direct approval. It's one of the reasons Paramount bribed him last year with a $16 million settlement they could've easily won in court on first amendment grounds. I feel like I'm watching a mob flick. That's a nice deal you have there, it'd be a shame if someone blocked it.

The lengths Trump 2.0 is willing to go to go after his critics and enemies is unheard of in America. Brendan Carr is threatening broadcast stations to the point of them cancelling interviews with Democratic US Senate candidates. All while staying silent when it comes to talk radio.

So how are people supposed to stay informed in such a crazy world when so many of the normal go-to sources are being controlled by those who are more concerned with currying favor from the Trump Administration than in reporting the truth. The best answer I can give is to read from independent sources. At the end of this post you'll find a list of sources I'd recommend. It's a strange thing though, having to subscribe to so many different sources to stay informed. It's probably not a bad thing to get different perspectives, but not everyone always has the money or time to look at too many different sources.

So here we are. We don't have state controlled media, but we have the next closest thing, media capture. Yes, Trump and the GOP do not own or control the news, but you can be damned sure they'll get their toadies in charge at CBS, Fox, CNN and everywhere else to go along with whatever they're pushing.
